Holt the Presses! “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri” just won Best Film at the BAFTAS, the British equivalent to the Oscars and sometimes its precursor, too. But not always. But especially in the Acting Categories. Frances McDormand’s much touted performance in “Three Billboards” won for Best Actress, and Gary Oldman won for Best Actor for his magisterial portrayal of Winston Churchill in “The Darkest Hour”.
Guillermo Del Toro broke “Three Billboards” winning streak by naming him Best Director for “The Shape of Water.” All these winners will proably repeat at the Oscar, the voting for which hasn’t even started yet. It starts the day after tomorrow, Oct.20.
