a.k.a. "The Oscar Messenger"

About Stephen Holt

Stephen Holt began “The Stephen Holt Show” cable television on Dec.7, 1988. He remembers that date because it’s the same as Pearl Harbor. It started at Manhattan Neighborhood Network www.mnn.org and still can be seen there every Friday night at midnight on Ch.56 on Time Warner Cable in Manhattan only.

It can also be seen on Ch.83 on RCN cable and Fios TV on Ch.34 at the same date and time, but only in Manhattan.

If you want to see “The Stephen Holt Show” on your computer, you can go to www.youtube.com/StephenHoltShow where you’ll currently see the videos of the interviews I talk about on the Toronto International Film Festival.  Marion Cotillard, Colin Firth and Geoffry Rush from “The King’s Speech,” and also the young aspiring filmmakes Conor McCreery and Anthony Del Col, who won the “Pitch This” contest at TIFF this year. And $10,000 Canadian!

I’m an Oscarologist and cover the Oscars so much everyone now calls me “The Oscar Messenger.” That’s how I introduced myself to the beautiful young Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, who is so stunning in all three Lisbeth Salander movies, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”, “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and the latest this week “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.”

If you want to know what I’m predicting, just keep reading this Blog, which is brand new.

I also cover theater. I ‘m a Voting Member of the Drama Desk. I review books, too. And sometimes, Cabaret, usually only if Scott Siegel is producing it.

  1. Stephen, I think I am switching my frame of reference from Rotten Tomatoes to your blog here. It’s a shame I can’t watch you on cable since you are Manhatten only, however, you should branch out to nationwide t.v. You are certainly more talented than that Roger Ebert. Plus, you have more personality as well. Good luck and, who’s winning the Oscars this year?

    • Dear Kevin,

Thank you so much for your kind words. But you CAN see my TV show, well, most of it at ~ http://www.youtube.com/StephenHoltShow

And as you can read over and over, I’m hoping for “The King’s Speech” to have a massive, historic sweep in all categories that it is nominated for. And then there’s Best Actress, which I THINK Natalie Portman is far and away the front-runner, as they say.

      • The DGAs are tonight Stephen. I will be watching, as I’m sure you will be too. I am hoping for “The King’s Speech” as well. Thank-you for replying.

Hi, Mr. Holt. My name is Dave Hillman and I vividly remember your play “The Casting of Kevin Christian” at the Wings Theatre in NYC. I had just moved here. I’ll never forget the play or Peter Benson’s performance.

I have since written a few screenplays, and male nudity is an important component in my work. I’d love to chat with you via email about the rehearsal process for that play.

I’ve seen your show as well; unfortunately after the recession, I’ve cancelled the cable–among other things.

Well, nice to stumble across your website.

    • Thank you Dave for your kind memories of “The Casting of Kevin Christian” and Peter Benson’s brilliant performance in it. He was valentined by the press at the time, and it launched his career as an actor. He was just in the revival of “Promises, Promises” on Broadway which just closed.

You should also check out my You Tube channel if you want to see my TV show nowadays. MOST of the best segments are up on it now. Including Academy Award nominee Colin Firth. I was the first person to tell him ON THE AIR back in Sept. at the Toronto Film Festival that he was going to win the Oscar and every other award on his way to the podium and I was right. He, and Geoffrey Rush, AND Tom Hooper were all stunned, because I was the first person to be able to tell them about the historic Oscar movie they had created. And the momentum, as you know, has just built and bulit, and I’m very thrilled and proud to have been as Tom Hooper named me their “Oscar Messenger.” And the name as stuck.

  3. Stephen:

  11. Dear Stephen
Unfortunately I couldn’t find your email. Just want to say that I’m a big fan of Oscar Wilde and I found out that you are a big one too but my problem is that in my country I can’t find his letters and the books which are written about him specially in English ones so I was wondering maybe you know how it feels to get more information about him and help me with that.
Thank you so much and good luck

  12. Hi Stephen, I just saw our interview on Youtube. Thanks again for speaking so highly about HARRY & SNOWMAN and for making the interview a blast! Ron
