a.k.a. "The Oscar Messenger"

zootopia-1“Zootopia” wins Best Animated Film. Touching but quick tribute to the all-too-recent passing of Debbie Reynolds & Carrie Fisher to the tune of Debbie singing to Carrie over clips of their careers “You Know You Made Me Love You.”carroe-fisher-debbie-reynoldsThey keep cutting to Meryl Streep, who is wearing her glasses, as Goldie Hawn so hilarious wasn’t earlier, introducing Best Actor in a Comedy “Mystical.” Meryl is sitting there looking very relaxed and laughing at everyone’s jokes. Next to her unsmiling husband of  many, many years. Don Gummer.

“Elle” wins Best Foreign Film, a tip of the hat to the French film that was not submitted to the Oscars by France. Paul Verhooven, the Dutch director, thanks Isabelle Huppert, who is nominated for Best Actress. To Huppert, who stayed in her seat, he gushes “I love you and I love you and I love you.”

isabelle-hupert-1Tom Hiddleston wins his first Golden Globe for “The Night Manager” I couldn’t hear which category but he gave the evening’s longest speech. Here he is being much more to the point and jovial at the Toronto Film Festival, before he was famous.
