a.k.a. "The Oscar Messenger"

ALicia Vikander 5Ex Machina 3I’m happy to say that what I predicted a few days ago has happened! Super-hot rising star Alicia Vikander has been nominated for Best Actress for “The Danish Girl” and Best Supporting Actress for “Ex Machina”! “The Danish Girl” got five nominations ~ Vikander, Eddie Redmayne for Best Actor, Best British Film, Best Costumes (Paco Delgado) and Best Make-up.Eddie Readmayn 7“Carol” got the most nominations nine. Best Picture, Best Actress Cate Blanchett, and Rooney Mara is now firmly in Supporting.Tied with “Bridge of Spies” with Mark Rylance leading the Supporting Actor Race with his nuanced Russian Spy.

Read the entire list below. And as I predicted every Brit who was nomminat-able, WAS nominated, of course! It’s the BAFTAs! But it’s a very important Oscar Bell Weather.

Notable among the missing, no  major nominations whatsoever for “Youth” starring Brit Kingpin  Michael Caine and Charlotte Rampling for Best Actress for “45 Years” and Sir Ian McKellan for “Mr.Holmes” also were not nominated.

Dame Maggie Smith, who is having another banner year, with the final season of Downton Abbey, was nominated for Best Actress for “Lady in a Van.”Lady in the Van 1

However, in Supporting Actress Julie Walters makes her first appearance in a major awards situation for the lovable/hatable landlady in “Brooklyn.” She beat out fellow Brit Dame Helen Mirren who has been nominated for everything under the sun for her campy behatted villaness read life Hywood columnist Hedda Hopper. It should be noted that Walters’ character of the Brooklyn house-mother-from-hell was a transplanted Irish woman, like Saorise Ronan’s character. Ronan reaped a Best Actress bid here, as she has been doing stateside, racking up Golden Globe, SAG, and BFCA nods.

Also, surprisingly left out was the powerful holocaust film “Son of Saul”
