a.k.a. "The Oscar Messenger"

Cariol Cate GlassWell, to say “Carol” really needed this is an understatement! Todd Haynes’ luscious lesbian love story just won the most awards at the New York Film Critics 2015 voting which finished off BEFORE LUNCHTIME! A first! Means there was a unanimous (or almost) agreement.

“Carol” just won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography! The Weinsteins are now happy this afternoon.

But neither lead actress Cate Blanchett or Rooney Mara won. Best Actress went to Ireland’s young Saoirse Ronan for “Brooklyn.” Here’s my interview with Saorise for “Grand Budapest Hotel” from last year.

Best Actor went in also a kind of surprise to Michael Keaton for “Spotlight.” I told you “Spotlight” would win here at the NYFCC, but I didn’t think it would Keaton, who’s only OK in it. He’s fine, but it’s not showy and a supporting role, really.

  1. Looking forward to Saoirse in “The Crucible” in 2016!!! With my man Ciarán Hinds as the villainous Danforth 🙂 But what sort of Proctor will Ben Whishaw make?
